NCCD The National Centre for Craft & Design are the largest venue in England entirely dedicated to the exhibition, celebration, support and promotion of national and international contemporary craft and design. Under one roof, five gallery spaces showcase up to 20 exhibitions every year. We worked with NCCD to deliver a brand overhaul presenting their organisational identity in a manner that reflected the ambition, eloquence and world class quality of their exhibition programme.

Letting NCCD’s programme take the lead, our designs for their exhibition guides, learning programmes, education packs and exhibition identity are built upon a formulated template. A single work is selected from the exhibition as a lead image the colour palette for the accompanying text and navigation is subsequently pulled from the selected image. This approach allows the content — the exhibited works, to determine the aesthetic of the accompanying visitor and gallery information. Devising this relatively simple template further gives NCCD the tools to be able to work in house, producing consistent and cost effective design to the high standards of their own programme.

Continuing with our template approach our designs for each element of NCCD’s programme are conceived with the potential to be scaled up or down depending on the requirements of each new exhibition enabling the visual relationship to remain consistent across all aspects of exhibition design.
