Corridor8 Ripe

As part of Corridor8’s developing platform of online content executive editor Lara Eagleton is curating a programme of writing residencies with arts organisations across the north. Extending the journal’s support for practitioners based in the region.

We continue to work with Corridor8 on a series of publications emerging from the residency programme that respond to the creative content in format, texture and design

Ripe is the first of a series of Corridor8 residency publications. Produced in partnership with The Tetley Leeds the publication broadly responds to two exhibitions at the gallery; Polyculture, a solo show by artist Jonathan Trayte exploring food production and capitalist consumerism; and Lovers and Romances, a retrospective look at the censorship trial sparked by an exhibition of paintings by Stass Paraskos at the Leeds Institute in 1966. With contributions from invited writers as well as Corridor8’s first writer in residence Abi Mitchell, the publication teases out series of associations around food, consumption and desire.

Ripe included a limited-edition bespoke insert by Jonathan Trayte using international food packaging. Playing with Trayte’s use of packaging design our title for the publication took the form a sticker – echoing those found on supermarket fruits. The publication being ripe for consumption.
